Our Work Away From Work
Our philanthropic belief is to pick a piece of the planet and give back.
It sounds simple but this belief has transformed the way we view the world and the way we do business.
Over the years, we have been touched by the philanthropic work that we have done and the people we met along the way. It changed the way we give back to our community and our world. We have led and supported numerous charity projects with the intent to create a positive impact in the world. We hope that through Live Edge Okanagan Builders we can drive a socially responsible force of change in the Okanagan Valley.
An eye-opening trip that turned into a powerful fundraiser
The History
In 2009 Kevin and Linda Edgecombe travelled to Nepal. During this trip they witnessed the need to raise money for women and girl’s education. Unfortunately many Nepali families can’t afford to send their kids to school and when they can, boys are given priority over girls. Kevin and Linda wanted to find a way to help inspire females to stay in school, so they created Classrooms for a Cause.
This project was led by Kevin and a group of volunteers (including Live Edge Okanagan staff) who would travel to Nepal and help build classrooms.
In addition to providing education opportunities for women and girls, these type of builds also helped educate Canadians about the needs in Nepal.
One brick at a time
Since then, we have constructed change in Nepal by building classrooms, building earthquake relief housing for Nepali families in need, building a community center called Unako House, and leading renovation projects in the rural community of Dang. Every Nepal build is done without a pump truck, crane, or specialized equipment on the construction site. These trips are coordinated with local NGO, Creating Possibilities Nepal.
In addition to leading volunteer trips to Nepal, Kevin also served as the President of Her International. HER is a charity with the mandate to empower women and girls through education.
